Dr. Wayne Simmons Dr. Wayne Simmons
President and Chief Executive Officer, Board Director


Dr. Wayne Simmons has served as our President & CEO, and Director since 2009. Dr. Simmons is responsible for Sundrop Fuels’ strategic direction and drives our company’s financing, partnership formation and commercialization activities. He brings to Sundrop Fuels more than 30 years of experience in the energy, chemical and environmental industries. Prior to joining the company, Dr. Simmons was founder and CEO of Velocys, Inc., a microchannel chemical process technology company that merged with a publicly traded UK company in 2008. He previously served as VP of Technology at Battelle Memorial Institute where he was responsible for technology and process licensing in the chemical industry. Dr. Simmons spent much of his early career in various management and engineering positions at ExxonMobil.

Dr. Simmons currently serves as the Chairman of the Board for the Advanced Biofuels Association, the leading industry advocacy group for advanced biofuels development.

Dr. Simmons received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Texas A&M University, an MS in Engineering from the California Institute of Technology and a PhD. in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He also completed the Executive Management Program at the University of Michigan Business School.


Bandel L. Carano Bandel L. Carano

Mr. Carano joined Oak Investment Partners in 1985 and became a General Partner in 1987. Bandel’s investment focus is on Information Technology and Clean Energy. Prior to Oak, Bandel joined Morgan Stanley's Venture Capital Group in 1983. He was responsible for advising Morgan Stanley on high-tech new business development, as well as sponsoring venture investments.

Mr. Carano is currently on the Boards of Airspan Networks, Aurora Algae, Boston Power, Centric Software, eSolar, FirstRain, Good Technology, Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Mimosa Networks, MobiTV, NeoPhotonics, Nexant, NextNav, nLight, Norse, Protean Electric, SmartDrive, Solarflare Communications, and Sundrop Fuels. Mr. Domenic J. Dell'Osso, Jr. has served as a Director since 2011. In November of 2010, Mr. Dell’Osso was appointed EVP and CFO in November 2010 of Chesapeake Energy. Mr. Dell’Osso served as VP–Finance and CFO of Chesapeake's wholly owned midstream subsidiary Chesapeake Midstream Development, L.P. from August 2008 to November 2010. Prior to joining Chesapeake, Mr. Dell'Osso was an energy investment banker with Jefferies & Co. from 2006 to 2008 and Banc of America Securities from 2004 to 2006.

Mr. Dell'Osso graduated from Boston College in 1998 and from the University of Texas at Austin in 2003.


Chuck Enze Chuck Enze
Luminant Construction


Mr. Chuck Enze has served as a Director since January of 2013. Mr. Enze was most recently CEO of Luminant Construction, a competitive power generation subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings Corp. Luminant’s activities include plant, mining, wholesale marketing and trading, and development operations. Previously, Mr. Enze served as VP, Engineering & Projects for Shell International Exploration. He brings to Sundrop Fuels more than 30 years of experience leading major projects from concept through execution to start-up and steady-state operations. Among his accomplishments, Mr. Enze was influential in spearheading Shell’s portfolio of global deepwater developments spanning two decades across the US, Africa, Brazil and the Far East.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and is a graduate of Shell’s Advanced Management Program at INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France.


Joseph Lacob Joseph Lacob
Partner Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers


Mr. Lacob has served as a Director since 2008. Mr. Lacob has been a partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers since 1987. He has been closely involved with KPCB’s investments in over fifty life science companies, including the start-up or incubation of a dozen ventures and with KPCB’s medical technology practice, which includes over thirty therapeutic and diagnostic medical device companies. He is part of KPCB’s growing initiative in the fields of greentech and alternative energy. In addition to serving on the Board of Sundrop Fuels, Mr. Lacob also serves on the Board of Directors of two public companies, Align Technology and Orexigen as well as several other privately-held companies, including Ophthonix, NeuroPace, TherOx, Arresto Biosciences and Codon Devices.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of California at Irvine, a MS in Public Health from UCLA and his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.


Bryan J. Lemmerman Bryan J. Lemmerman
Vice President- A&D and Business Development, Chesapeake Energy Corporation


Mr. Lemmerman joined the board in April 2013. He has served as VP–Finance at Chesapeake Energy Corporation since January 2012 and served as Director–Finance from 2010 to 2011. Prior to joining Chesapeake, Mr. Lemmerman served as a consultant to various oil and gas companies and private equity firms from 2008 to 2010. Mr. Lemmerman was a portfolio manager at Highview Capital Management from 2006 to 2008 and at Ritchie Capital Management from 2003 to 2006. Mr. Lemmerman has served as a member of the Board of Directors for FTS International since February 2013.

He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Texas A&M University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Lemmerman is also a CPA and CFA charterholder.
